Lidsø solar park sits by Rødby Havn on Lolland in southern Denmark. 253 hectares, 350,000 panels, and one of the largest operational solar parks in Scandinavia. It's one of the more memorable assignments I've had.
Alight hired me to document the site ahead of its opening — in photo, film and aerial work. A park of this scale requires planning. Ground level, drone and the right light was the combination that worked.
From the air the geometry of the park stands out clearly. The rows of panels stretch toward the horizon and shift in form with camera angle and altitude. I flew several passes to get the variation the assignment needed.
At ground level the most unexpected element took centre stage: 1,700 sheep grazing beneath and between the panels. The park is agrivoltaic — agriculture and solar power sharing the same land. It's a concept that paints a very different picture of what a solar park can look like, and that was the heart of what the film and images needed to communicate.
Energy installations, logistics and infrastructure require technical understanding, drone operator experience and the ability to plan around light and weather. It's a segment I actively pursue and take on more work in.
